America Going Down Under Trump
America Going Down Under Trump
I am not a Trump fan. My life ambitions are to be kind to others and peaceful at my core. Yeah, I have lots of other aspirations, but I keep those two at the top of the queue. That is not compatible with Trump's values. But that is not what this post is about.
America has been in trouble with debt for a long time under both Republican and Democratic leadership. We have also been under the illusion that we build an empire on bits, finance, and a world of abstractions, but in real life, we need real things like steel, wood, copper, corn, materials, etc., to shape the world around us. If you don't know what I am talking about, look at where America is with rare earths and our dependence on China, the manufacturing plant of the world.
Take AI to drive this point home. We need lots of energy to make AI possible. Who has power? China, not us. Data is required for training; China, with 3X our population, will eventually have more data to train AI. And finally, you need things to optimize with AI. Optimizing the financial world will have some benefit, but nothing like fine-tuning the world's manufacturing capital. So, from energy to things to optimize, China is out of our league, because we are too good to dirty our hands with the dirtier professions that require supply chains originating from Mother Earth.
We are hedge-fund heaven, with a world that was up to Trump and willing to loan us everything we needed because they were dazzled by our bright lights. Now they're just insulted by a narcissistic bastard of a President. All bets are off, and our debt is coming due. Our Congress has been neutered by Trump; we no longer have the time or expertise to rebuild from the ground up. The shine of our dollar is soiled by all the shit that Trump has been laying on everyone's head. Meanwhile, Russia has decided it was time to be a bully, while America and the rest of the world have trouble making artillery shells. Thankfully, Ukraine has taken survival seriously as we struggle to understand that corporate profits and sky-high stock prices have little to do with survival for Ukraine or our own people.
Yes, our economy is going to crash under Trump. No, he is not the sole cause; however, he is the worst in a long line of Presidents that did not understand what was real and essential for the average person in America. So the question, as we go underwater for the first time, is whether we rise again on our own or if someone throws us a lifeline. I will ponder that under another blog.
